Event Details

The UK UPA is holding a “Book Fair” as its September event – sponsored by Morgan Kaufmann Publishers. Following on from the very successful July event, we are holding another evening of short presentations and networking. This time we will have a specific theme of books and publishing. And there will of course be the regular food and drink to help with networking.

This event will also be the official handover date for the new committee - so committee members incoming and outgoing will be there to say hello and 'see you soon'.

Presentations

To start the evening off we will have several short presentations from book and publishing people. More details about the talks and presenters are to follow, but in brief:

·         Trends in Consumption of Online Content

o   (Wyndham Lewis, TMG)

·         A Review of eBook Readers and Apps

o   (Mike Briggs, Which?)

·         How to Get an Article Published in an Industry Relevant Journal

o   (Tom Stewart – Founding Editor of Behaviour and Information Technology)

·         How to Get a UX Book Published: Undercover UX

o   (James Box & Cennydd Bowles, Clearleft)

·         A Book Review: Simple and Usable

o   (Giles Colborne, CX Partners)

·         UX Book Club

o   (Leisa Reichelt, London Coordinator of UX Book Club)

·         Author or Editor: The Pros and Cons

o   (Joanna Bawa, Editor of Usability News)

Books for Sale

Throughout the evening several publishers/retailers/authors will be promoting and selling their products. In addition, Morgan Kaufmann is offering a discount for online sales after the event, so bring your wallet!

Book Prize Draw

There will be a prize draw of several relevant books. All you have to do is bring along your business card and Claire will draw the prizes as her last public duty as President of the committee - so please remember to bring your business cards!

Book Exchange

As part of our social responsibility, we are also raising money for charity at this event. Bring along any books you have at home or at work that you want to exchange. If you see a book you like then we will charge £1 per book with all proceeds going to a nominated charity. If there are books left over at the end of the evening these will be passed on to Oxfam, so don't forget to bring your old books!
